Start measuring your life in stories, not years - embrace aging
Hello, dear reader.
My name is Francisco and since we are in the middle of Christmas and about to end this strange year, I would like to share with you one of the most important reflections I have come to.
I've always fought against the idea of having a birthday. It may be, that for a long period of time, I was always "the youngest" to do X. "Never mind" I told myself, "I am the youngest manager." "The youngest employee." "The youngest". My age was my numerical measure of success.
Of course, there came a point where I stopped being the young man, I became older.
Our generation has grown up under the pressure from Forbes lists “30 under 30”.
But why do we allow our age (a number, just like your shoe or clothing size) to define who we are?
Because I, like you, are not my age. I am the songs that I love, the books in which I lose myself, the articles that amaze me, places that I have chosen to travel, the friends that I am lucky to have and all the little things and experiences that make up who I am. I will be all these things at 24, 46 and 79 years old.
if you think about it, our age maybe is the most boring of us.
Some people are old souls at 18, others are desperately young at 90. Time is a concept that we humans have created.
Get older is about get to know yourself better. Make you the priority. Discover a little more about yourself every day.
So let's throw out the rulebook, throw out the magazines and Let's reject the ideals that tell us that aging is something negative. Let's stop cringing at the milestones of the 30s, 40s, 50s and 80s, and Let's celebrate the fact that we are healthy. Growing old is a privilege that is denied to many.
Let's stop clinging to our youth like sand slipping through our fingers, and let it go, but feeling every grain that passes. Being young, actually, isn't that cool anyway. Would you honestly want to be so naive, so lost and disoriented again?
Here's to measuring your life in storiesinstead of in years. Instead of thinking about all the things you miss from your past, focus on the things that are waiting for you. Each year that passes is not a lost youth, but a new stage with endless opportunities.
It's never too late to start celebrating your life, with his expression lines and all that.
Today, as the new year approaches, I will welcome it with open arms.
