Facial couperosis or sensitive skin?
I have never heard of this! I have to admit that yesterday I was confused when I accompanied my best friend to the dermatologist. Her skin has been much more sensitive and reddish than usual for a while now and (as I'm catching up on the skin thing lately) I thought she had the sensitive or reactive skin type. However, it appears that he suffers from facial couperose. Yes, yes, I'm not kidding. Although it has a strange name, facial couperosis exists.
Facial couperosis consists of the appearance of varicose veins , redness and irritation in different areas of the face as a result of increased blood pressure in the area; that is, when the arterioles and venules of the face become too dilated. Although in principle facial couperosis is not a serious skin problem, it is important that it be diagnosed and treated in time, since otherwise it can last a long time. This is because once the arterioles and venules in our skin dilate too much, it is often difficult for them to return to their original size due to the loss of elasticity they have suffered.
Couperosis usually creates reddish " spider webs " on the face. That is why this symptom is called telangiectasia . In addition to the redness and irritation that it can cause, facial couperose is also usually accompanied by a constant sensation of heat and burning on the face .
This skin problem tends to appear especially on the cheekbones and wings of the nose and are usually reddish or more purplish. However, although in principle, due to the symptoms , facial couperose may resemble sensitive or reactive skin , the truth is that this skin problem tends to develop more and can cause an unsightly effect . In addition, it is worth noting the fact that facial couperosis is usually seen more in people with this type of skin; that is, men with fine, sensitive and reactive skin . On the other hand, although genetics can cause us to suffer from facial couperosis , in truth women tend to have this problem more than us.
On the other hand, we must bear in mind that any factor that can cause our arterioles and venules to dilate too much may be the main reason for the facial couperose that we are suffering from. Among the most common factors are excessive heat or cold , sudden changes in temperature , blows or trauma to the skin, constant exposure to the sun or the consumption of tobacco and alcohol .
